"It takes relaxation--and focus--to create and understand the balance in our lives."
-- Karl W. Palachuk
Review of Relax Focus Succeed
by Kimberly Edwards
Author, Journalist
A hand
reached out of Relax Focus Succeed and took mine. I kept the book close,
on the table near my bed, where a message awaited each morning as I
arose. The easy narrative made me think that Karl was talking in my ear.
The ideas are simple, yet framed in a way that allowed me to see them in
a new light.
Early on, I found answers to questions that have been on my mind for
years:
The book launches a plethora of useable ideas that build a foundation
for success. I immediately implemented the notion of daily quiet time
and came to view this activity as productive rather than wasted time.
Karl's book gives the reader permission to change old habits little by
little, beginning today, as part of a larger action plan. While the book
is packed with new routes for approaching the rest of one's life, the
following concepts sang the loudest tunes:
Relaxation is a part of success, but relaxation begs energy and
attention. By relaxing, you can focus, set goals, develop the agenda for
the day, and evaluate your life and business. People with active minds
may hold too many goals, the result being that none is accomplished.
Quiet time means being by yourself, paying attention to goals and
dreams. Relaxation is addictive, and should become part of your daily
routine.
Values give our life meaning. Therefore, it pays to examine root values.
Know what you stand for and what's important to you. If your goals
reflect your value system, then you will feel more successful as you
achieve them.
Success consists of the proper combination of habits, knowledge and
tools. To achieve success, one needs a supporting structure. This is
created in large part from past experiences. The past drives you, and
past successes undeniably drive you forward. Focus on events and make
note of successes. You can build your own successful past beginning with
today's successes.
Balance is a moving target, since the world around us always changes.
Nevertheless, we should strive to maintain balance. Working toward
balance prepares us for the agility required to weather change, which is
inevitable.
Relax Focus Succeed convinced me that I can be the person I wish to be,
but I am responsible for developing skills and practicing new habits to
reach the next level.
This is a book I will read over and over. It's so clear, sensible,
understandable, so humanly written, that I feel as if I'm listening to a
neighbor. When Karl speaks, the possibilities ooze like warm wax down a
softly lit candle. If you haven't figured it out, I recommend this book
to anyone interested in a harmonious, fulfilling life. Today is the
first day of the rest of our lives.
